Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, specifically the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, a member of the Chippewa Tri Council and the Three Fires Confederacy. This territory is protected by the Williams Treaties.

As the owner of DWN Craft Chocolatier, I also want to recognize my own place. I am a settler and a first generation Canadian, and like many settlers I have benefited from living on Turtle Island. Reconciliation calls me to understand the histories that have shaped our communities, to ensure those around me understand as well.

As we start our conversations today we can honour the ongoing presence, leadership, and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples who continue to care for this land, and we acknowledge our shared responsibility to protect the lands, and waters.

Reconciliation requires more than acknowledgement; it calls for informed action. We encourage ongoing learning through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Final Report and its 94 Calls to Action as a guide toward meaningful change.
